Three spells is a project that originated in Damien Jalet’s mind following an invitation from the Tokyo International Arts Festival. A triptych of short pieces made at different points of time and triggered by different events, it is the result of an association between Damien Jalet, Alexandra Gilbert, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and the musician Christian Fennesz.Three choreographic tales that gently jostle their narrative components in an oblique abstraction; three stories that place man in a tug-of-war between his animal side and his quest for a spiritual vent; three spells that bury their roots in folklore (in particular those from the Balkans, Japan and Vietnam), ancestral myths (Acteon, Orpheus ….) and other archetypes to pan three remarkable rituals with surrealistic shades…
