With a green horse you never knew what to expect,
and I got thrown plenty, which terrified Mom,
but Dad just waved her off and helped me up.
‘Most important thing in life’, he
would say, ‘is learning how to fall.’
— Jeannette Walls/Half Broke Horses
Horses is a dance performance with untameable energy, in which five children and five adults meet. Small and grown-up share eagerness and amazement, and above all an unshakeable trust in one another. Horses is about wanting to be grown-up and wanting to remain a child, about power and vulnerability, about carrying and being carried. About sensing a situation before surrendering oneself, sussing out who’s got a hold of the reins, and finding a cadence. Horses confirms the power and integrity of human relations.
To the live music of Thomas Devos and Eva Vermeiren the dancers look for symbiosis, a unique bond with an Other, like a jockey and his horse. Through its layered quality, Horses is a performance for both adults and children from age 8 upwards.
