Rather than witnessing a concert, the audience become part of a ritual for a purpose unknown to them, but seemingly of upmost importance to the party in question. In THE OTHEROOM everything is in motion. The musicians are not bound to a particular space. There are no chairs, the audience are free to move around or be moved around. Elements of the theatre are playfully incorporated in the ritual. They are the physical manifestation of the thoughts and actions of the musicians.
The life of a musician is particular: much of their time is spent alone. Practicing playing their instrument to perfection, closely studying complicated passages. At concerts we anticipate that they’ll play with hypersensitivity, almost telepathically attuned with one another, merging into a whole, greater than the sum of its parts. In the form of a ritual THE OTHEROOM celebrates this unique capacity.
