Award Ceremony Young Art Critic Prize 2016

The organisation and the jury have announced the list of nominees for the Young Art Critic Prize 2016:

During the festive award ceremony on Friday December 16 the winners in the categories Review (first prize €2500 mentorship by Sandra Smallenburg, art editor at NRC Handelsblad) and Essay (first prize €2500 and mentorship by Sven Lütticken, art critic and historian) will be presented in M HKA - Museum for Contemporary Art Antwerp. The award ceremony starts at 16:30, the audience is welcome from 16:15 onwards. Afterwords there will be a drink in MuHKAFE until 20:00. 

In the category innovative criticism no first prize was awarded, since the jury was not able to appoint an individual winner who met all the quality demands. Two stimulation prizes will be awarded to the participants and announced during the award show.

For this fifth edition, the jury of the Young Art Critic Award 2016 again is presided by Sanda Smallenburg (art editor at NRC Handelsblad) en further consists of Jan Postma (art critic and editor at De Groene Amsterdammer, former editor in chief of Hard//Hoofd), Wouter Hillaert (freelance critic and stage editor at Rekto:Verso), Max Bruinsma (independent design and art critic), Anne Ruygt (freelance art historian and curator) and Dave Mestdach (film critic Knack Focus).

The Young Art Critic Award 2016  is a stimulation award for a new generation of critics and essayists from the Dutch speaking region, writing about contemporary visual art. The prize is an initiative of de Appel arts centre Amsterdam, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art Rotterdam and the Mondriaan Fonds, in collaboration with Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, STUK - House for Dance, Image & Sound Leuven, M HKA - Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen and Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven.
