As soon as the curtain is raised you are drawn into an uncertain world. Have we arrived at a funeral or a re-enactment of one in a recording studio? Who is the mother? Is she even here? Drawing from the sense of grief felt in a mother’s absence the performers build a broader impression of ‘lacking’ in the here and now; through movement, dance and text that navigate between the comprehensible and the mysterious. Central to this performance is a fascination with the idea that our current world overwhelms and overcomes us: an amusing perspective on failed attempts to make everything fit into our worldview. Moeder is both funny and estranging, disturbing but also surprisingly recognisable.
Moeder is the second part of a trilogy that started with Vader (2014) and will be completed with Kind (2019).
