Raphäel Trailer (Alexander Vantournhout & Bauke Lievens)

Alexander Vantournhout & Bauke Lievens

Two bodies meet one another. One body is active and takes the initiative, the other is a lifeless object. Together they dance a forced duet. An unsteady dance in which the one attempts to manipulate and animate the other into an ideal sparring partner, whether a doll or dead entity. During the sequence, the boundaries between intimacy and perversion are tested. Raphaël is an exploration into the grey areas in an otherwise apparent sharp divide, and simultaneously a poignant portrait of the mutual sense of de cit for things that bind us. A powerful performance.

We know the work of Alexander Vantournhout and Bauke Lievens from their acclaimed performance ANECKXANDER, presented at STUK during the Dag van de Dans 2016. They are masters in creating a flawless combination of contemporary dance with circus and puppetry – and this is no different in Raphaël
