Lecture about Sad Music and Happy Dance

Shila Anaraki, Aisha Orazbayeva & Matthew Shlomowitz

What do you experience during a dance performance? Does the music excite or upset you? This playful lecture performance explores how dance and music connect with your emotions. Lecture about Sad Music and Happy Dance brings together insights from aesthetics, psychology, dance and music theory. Dancer Shila Anaraki and violinist Aisha Orazbayeva put their theory into practice: they play, reflect on each other’s work and perform duets. With playful style they include the audience in their argumentation. They propose hypotheses concerning the emotional effects of various compositions, provoking laughter, confusion and resistance. Curious about what ‘mood’ you’ll be in after this performance?
