Kalakuta Republik

Faso Danse Théâtre / Serge Aimé Coulibaly

Which events have inspired communities to unite and look for new alternatives? Why do people turn to charismatic leaders? How much power do these people actually have? How much freedom can be found within a movement?

The Burkinese Serge Aimé Coulibaly had great success as a dancer with Alain Platel. He’s now making his own dance productions rooted in African culture. The expressive and engaging dance performances are travelling from continent to continent. After Nuit blanche à Ouagadougou, a performance that calls for an uprising in an African country, in Kalakuta Republik Coulibaly continues his discourse for the absolute necessity to evaluate today’s world. The music and life of Nigerian musician and political activist Fela Kuti forms the basis of Kalakuta Republik.
