Dança Doente - Marcelo Evelin/demolition Incorporada - New creation 2017

Cancelled: Dança Doente

Marcelo Evelin / Demolition Incorporada

What might dance mean today? Brazilian choreographer Marcelo Evelin lived and worked between Amsterdam and Teresina (Brazil) for over 30 years and distinguished himself with highly physical, transgressive dance performances that are closely related to rituals. Dança Doente (‘Sick Dance’) approaches dance as pathos, as a symptom of a body infected by a world gone mad and dominated by forces that drain and dismiss it. Marcelo Evelin has drawn inspiration from the dances and writings of Hijikata Tatsumi, the pioneer of Japanese Butoh in the 60s. The piece arranges itself as a ‘danced pathology’ with bodies moving on their own accord. A viral and contagious dance as a prelude to certain death, only to reaffirm life in all its force.
