Blue Skies Forever

buren (BE)

The buren collective interprets two characters from Ever Is Over All, a 1997 video work by Pipilotti Rist in which a carefree woman in blue dress smashes car windows while a passing policewoman nods in approval. Dorothy, based on the character from The Wizard of Oz, is the representation of femininity, and Officer represents law enforcement. Moving between fantasy and cliché, buren shows different representations of these female archetypes in pop culture, media, and film. They investigate what is generated by a costume and how action and voice influence the interpretation of a character.
