Creatives Shaping Cities

Creatives Shaping Cities

How do music, art, architecture or youth culture contribute to the development of a city? Why is that creative culture so important? And how do you realize your own projects or deal with politics? On Wednesday May 10, three European changemakers share their story and vision.

Joseph Halligan – Founding Member ASSEMBLE, London
ASSEMBLE Studio is an eighteen-headed young collective and promising studio with a horizontal structure. Their practice is based in London, operating between art, architecture, urban planning and design. Their work focuses on the relation between the design process, the users and urban needs, resulting in a fascinating approach. In 2015 they were awarded the renowned Turner Prize.

Alex Benson – Founder Bloc., London
Over the course of its ten year existence, Bloc. has developed into an institute for electronic music. Club nights became festivals, bankruptcy was followed by a restart, which was then followed by a new event space. Bloc. has tons of experience and a very distinct view on youth culture, music and the city.

Mirik Milan – Nachtburgemeester Amsterdam
The night mayor commits to guarantee Amsterdam's dynamic nightlife, building bridges between the city, club owners and citizens. By creating a mutual understanding he generates an impact on the urban game. That way, Amsterdam's innovative night mayoralty is an inspiration for other cities - the international network of partner cities grows steadily.
