Jaha Koo

JAHA KOO is creating his new project [CUCKOO]. It is an aural/visual theater piece drawing on social/political themes from South Korea. The story refers to a divided society with violent structure that demand immense sacrifice from the weak or minorities.

The title of the work is taken from ‘Cuckoo', a Korea-style electric rice cooker designed to boil or steam rice for human consumption. With inbuilt speakers, there is an internal audio guide for the cooking menu and cooking processes. Cuckoo will be on stage as an actor alongside a human performer.

During a residency in STUK, he develops his performance elements such as sound, music and video materials for CUCKOO. Also he collaborates with a hard ware hacker, Nathan Andrew Fain, to improve sufficient linguistic ability of Cuckoo. [CUCKOO] will be premiered at Bâtard Festival (co-production) in early November 2016.

JAHA KOO (born 1984) is a theater maker and music composer. GuJAHA is his pseudonym as a composer. He has focused on the potential performativity of multimedia.
