The Eternal Return

Public in Private/Clément Layes

Equipped with the tools of dance, Berlin choreographer Clément Layes face the cycles of life and the infinite recurrence. His new show The Eternal Return features 15 performers in a small room built on the stage. The choreography, based on the repetition of short quotidian sequences, juxtaposes itself in the gradual accumulation of performers who, from repetition 1 to 15, gather in this reduced space and form a multitude of unexpected ties as their numbers increase. In each repetition, the individual actions combine to form a new ensemble, a moving mosaic that opens the space for new references and narratives. A kaleidoscope of everyday life, humorous and yet serious, develops on stage, gaining something new through each repetition. The Eternal Return is the first project in a series of performances by Public in Private / Clement Layes questioning rhythm in its form and content. Premiere: October, 5th, 2017 - Sophiensaele Berlin

Clément Layes has been living and working as a choreographer and performer in Berlin since 2008. Here, he co-founded the company Public in Private together with Jasna L. Vinovrski. At the interface between choreography, the visual arts and philosophy, the point of his works is found in observations on daily life. His performances - among them Allege (2010), Der grüne Stuhl (2012), Things that surround us (2012), dreamed apparatus (2014) and TITLE (2015), the last part of this performance series focusing on the man made world of objects surrounding us - are shown internationally.
