Peter Broderick - Carried (Live on Piano Day 2016)

Peter Broderick (solo/piano) + Dudal

21:15 Peter Broderick

For close to a decade, Portland’s Peter Broderick has cut his own unpredictable path through the world of contemporary music. So far, his wanderings have led him to solo works into the realms of film, dance and documentary scores, as well as art installations.

Now Peter takes it a step further, into musical-philosophical ground. It was John Cage’s In a landscape that inspired him for his latest album Partners (Erased Tapes). Cage has the tendency to remove himself from his music, to somehow automate his own process, which inspired Peter Broderick’s using strange mechanics to create the record. He experiments with chance, surrendering an entire song’s composition to the roll of dice. Peter steps into the world of Avant-garde music. For this album the musician uses only piano and voice, what makes him more fragile than ever. Partners is an honest and heartfelt record that proves that after working as a collaborator with several other musicians (Nils Frahm, Efterklang, The Album Leaf,...) he can stand on his own feet.

Dudal appeared on the radar for the first time in 2015 with a debut EP on French label Found Toys Creative. A curator for Gent-based Dauw label, this twentysomehing creates lo-fi melodies nestled in slowly evolving sound textures, resulting in fragile electro-acoustic compositions. After shows in his home country, 2016 saw Dudal playing Berlin, Prague and London in a series of intimate concerts. He is currently working on his first full-length album and collaborations with, among others, Stijn Hüwels and Will Samson.
