Protoype (residency)

Marc Vanrunxt

During this residency Marc Vanrunxt works on his new creation Prototype, which will premiere on 26 January 2017 in the Bruges Concertgebouw and which will be performed in STUK on April 20 2017. A prototype (prototypus) is the first model of a product; a study model, an original model. A prototype is the most distinctly characteristic representation of something; a first imprint or form. Together with dancers Peter Savel, Igor Shyshko, Lise Vachon and Georgia Vardarou Marc Vanrunxt develops a performance based on the work of einzelgänger Lucien Goethals, a pioneer of Flemish electronic music. Sound developer Daniel Vanverre manipulates the sound tapes live on stage. Visual artist Koenraad Dobbeleer makes a decor inspired by the work of American painter Ellsworth Kelly.

Marc Vanrunxt is choreographer and dancer. He investigates the borders of dance as a medium and choreography as a language, by taking into account the body's possibilities. His work tries to redefine ideas like time, space, energy and presence. Vanrunxt's oeuvre works with opposites such as visible/invisible and tangible/intangible. His artistic vocabulary is rooted in the punk movement and abstract expressionism.
