The Sad and Beautiful World of Sparklehorse - Glitterpaard

Docville

The musical influence of Sparklehorse cannot be overestimated. Many indie musicians see him as an important source of inspiration. Glitterpaard is an homage to Sparklehorse and will play a few of his songs.

Sparklehorse is the moniker of Mark Linkous, an American who created magical and unique songs and was hailed by numerous indie musicians: Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Thom Yorke and Nina Persson were part of his fanbase and appeared as guests on his dark albums. Linkous was a modest man, a gentleman, but he had a dark side. He was self-destructive and fought against an addiction to alcohol and drugs. Paralysation - for that reason he performed in a wheelchair - and mental problems led to his suicide in 2010. His twisted personality is part of his music. You’ll hear beautiful, unusual pop, sometimes very small and frayed, with vocals in overdrive and surreal texts, but also rusty country ballads and punk.

The Sad and Beautiful World of Sparklehorse is a musical documentary where Mark Linkous appears both as cult figure and tormented soul. Two British filmmakers talk to Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), John Parish, Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie (Stars of the Lid), Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev) who have worked and lived with Linkous. This unique film premiered last year.
