Turning, Turning, a choreography of thoughts
Sarah Vanhee
sat 31 mar 12 . 20:30 . STUK Soetezaal

At any given moment, hundreds of thoughts cross our mind - either consciously or hidden. In Turning, Turning, three performers give voice to that stream of thoughts, showing everything that goes on in their head. In order to do this, they have to be faster than 'the now': by talking faster than they think, the performers say out loud what they had until then only thought in silence. They tell forgotten stories, use words they didn't know they knew. No time to think: talking empties their mouths, filling time with ever-changing meaning. Now and now and now and now.

Meanwhile, experts watch closely, their words circling around what they cannot know: what goes on in our head. Turning, Turning's choreography of thoughts tries to put 'the now' into words and therefore changes continually.

'For me, words have a temperature. When they reach a certain degree and start to get heated, I am attracted to them... Sometimes I dream that if a word gets too hot it will evaporate and I will no longer be able to read or think it. Mostly I capture the words before they get too hot.' (Edward Ruscha)
