Aki Onda

Aki Onda is an artist, composer and curator. Their performances and installations often center on Cassette Memories, an ongoing project in which he draws from field recordings captured on Walkmans over more than three decades - what they describe as ‘sound diaries’. Onda previously delivered a memorable performance at STUK alongside Akio Suzuki and Rie Nakajima, but has also collaborated with influential artists such as David Toop, Ken Jacobs and Alan Licht. From MoMA to Centre Pompidou to documenta, their work has been presented at leading institutions worldwide, each time leaving a distinct and deeply personal imprint. At STUK, Onda returns with a cassette solo performance in the courtyard, incorporating the resonant tones of brass bells. This marks his first performances in Europe since 2019.
