Echo Collective plays Jóhann Jóhannsson ‘12 Conversations with Thilo Heinzmann’ [sold out]

Renowned post-classical string quartet brings an ode to the late Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson.

‘Post-classical’, ‘neo-classical’ or ‘not-classical’: Neil Later and Margaret Hermant’s Echo Collective don’t really mind what you call their music. For years, the classically schooled string quartet with an ear for experiments have been investigating the boundaries between classical and pop. Echo Collective have collaborated with some of the great composers in the genre, such as Nils Frahm, Joep Beving and the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who sadly passed away in 2018. Just before his death, Jóhannsson asked Echo Collective to record his 12 Conversations With Thilo Heinzmann, a collection of twelve pieces composed as a soundtrack for the work of the Berlin-based visual artist Thilo Heinzmann. This live performance of the piece is also STUK’s ode to the Icelandic master, who we were honoured to welcome three times in the past.
