Internship production sound

For music-minded people who want to help organise our concerts

Sseptember 2025 - April 2026

STUK is looking for a music-minded intern to support the production work of our concerts and sound art project from September 2024 to June 2025. You help with organising events, festivals and residencies, welcome our artists with open arms, and get a wide range of production tasks. A lot of Belgian and international artists are part of the sound programme and festivals such as STUK START, Kermis In De Hel, TakeOff UUR KULTUUR, Hear Here and STUK Eindfeest. The internship is a unique chance to get to know interesting artists and gain experience in the arts sector.

In short

STUK is a buzzing arts centre in the middle of Leuven, a house for dance, image & sound with international appeal. The building comprises multiple concert and theatre spaces, an exhibition hall, a cinema, a café and much more. From dance performances to concerts, from movies to exhibitions, STUK does it all. We also offer a multitude of festivals and contexts to present Belgian and international artists in the best possible way. Behind the scenes, there are a lot of residencies work and we support the production of new work.

Who are we looking for?

STUK is looking for a music-minded intern to support the production of our concerts and sound art projects from September 2024 to June 2025. The internship is spread out across the entire year, with quiet and busy periods. The season starts with STUK START (19 & 20 September 2024) and the most intense period is Hear Here (24 April to 9 June 2025). During the Christmas and Easter holiday, there is no programmation. No week is the same as the previous one, variety is guaranteed! We look for someone with an affinity for music and (sound) art who likes to roll up their sleeves and get things done. We expect a lot of availability in busy periods, including being free on concert days, doing preparatory work and working late (23:00). The internship is a unique opportunity to get to know interesting artists and gain experience in the cultural sector.

So who are we looking for specifically?

  • Some affinity affinity for the sound programme of STUK is a plus. In any case, you are enthusiastic about music and (sound) art in general.
  • Being a strong communicator who can work independently and think practically are worthy valuable assets for this internship.
  • Having some experience with organising events, parties or concerts, or having done volunteer work in the cultural or event sector, is a plus, but not a necessity.
  • Being familiar with with digital tools like Gmail, Google Drive and social media are preferable, but not necessary.
  • Having a good knowledge of English, allowing you to communicate with non-Dutch-speaking artists, is a plus. Speaking French is an extra asset.
  • If you live in Leuven (home or dorm), it makes taking part in activities and concert days (and evenings) a lot easier.
  • You have (preferably) a driving licence type B
  • You are available to work regularly on concert days, until late (23:00), and do preparatory work, from September 2025 to 1 April 2026.

What will you do?

The tasks are varied

  • You are responsible for the practical organisation of events and are expected to be present on every ‘concert day’. The days of your internship are directly linked to the sound programme, which will take shape in the coming months. Next to that, you will be asked to help with other, preparatory production tasks. The roster is flexible and can be discussed in consultation with the sound programmer.
  • You are the point of contact for artists and technicians: upon arrival, you guide the artists around the venue, backstage, artist kitchen and STUKcafé.
  • You offer practical and logistical support (e.g. making production sheets, keeping track of the guest list, picking up artists at the airport, booking hotels, taking care of hospitality, stage management, …)
  • You make the timetables for audience and artists
  • You follow up the volunteers (ticket scanners, bar, …) who support the events, in consultation with the volunteers coördinator.

Who will you work with?

You will work most closely with the sound programmer Gilles Helsen, and the head of sound production, Lana Lievezoons. You will also work with the volunteers coordinator, volunteers, other production colleagues, bar staff, and in fact the entire STUK team. In the course of the internship, you will get to know all of the team.

STUK offers

The internship is unpaid, but during your internship you can attend all performances and activities of STUK for free. Every working day we provide a fresh lunch, prepared by our chefs and volunteers. On concert evenings you can join us in the artist kitchen for a three-course menu. You will also get a laptop to perform your tasks. Travel costs to and from STUK are not reimbursed.

The selection process

If you are selected after your official application, you will be invited for an interview in STUK with Gilles Helsen (sound programmer) and Lana Lievezoons (sound production). If the conversation goes positively and smoothly, and you are chosen for the internship, we have to do some administration and the internship can start.

If you do not (yet) meet all the requirements, but are very keen on this job, don't hesitate to apply. We are curious about your talents and competences and how you can contribute to our story.
STUK is committed to diversity and inclusion. This commitment translates into our programme, residencies and partnerships. We aim to be a safe and welcoming home with room for different voices and perspectives.
