Ghent-based sextet Uma Chine operates in the middle ground between roots and electronica, or like their band name suggests: between man (hUman) and maChine. Lead singer Nele De Gussem (Future Old People Are Wizards, BRNS) is joined by powerful voices from the jazz and experimental pop scene (including Simon Raman of Steiger and Ivy Falls) and is accompanied by the sisterly voices of Rana and Sherine Holail Mohamed. The result is an untitled debut album full of unconventionally structured songs, twirling between childishly simple and stubbornly complex. Lovely vocal harmonies, groovy yet edgy, and weird at times: welcome to the wonderful sound universe of Uma Chine.
