Maurice Louca + Numen + Rebel Up! (DJ-set)
The name Maurice Louca probably doesn’t immediately ring a bell, but he is one of the most atstonishing artists in Arab contemporary alternative music scene. Born in Caïro, Louca was highly celebrated in the international press for his album Salute the Parrot (Nawa Recordings). The record is an exhilarating ode to the teeming energy in Egypt, politically ravaged and yet musically irrepressible.
Louca’s percussive rhythms fuse with slick improv into a bruising intensity. He mangles psychedelica, Egypthian shaabi and electronics into a complex style which flings him miles ahead of comparable local acts.
Numen from Leuven present their live set, a blend of electronics with eastern references. Belgian-Dutch DJ-collective Rebel Up! spices up the night with sounds of the worldwide, non-Western underground.
