The engaged performances by choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly employ an exceptionally expressive dance language to explore societal changes. WAKATT, reflects on our current era and the fear that reigns within it. With live music by the trio Magic Malik Orchestra.
Hailing from Burkino Faso, Serge Aimé Coulibaly is part of a generation of fascinating artists building bridges between Europe and Africa. His engaged performances employ an exceptionally expressive dance language to explore everyday reality and societal changes. Contemporary and anchored in emotion, Serge Aimé Coulibaly’s dancing is always hopeful. It’s through this prism that he touches on complex themes which he fills with positive energy.
In his latest creation WAKATT, he questions the “fear of the other” that is so prevalent in the present day. With a cast of ten dancers, Coulibaly wonders about the nature of humankind and instinct. Are we violent by default? Do we spontaneously reject those who we do not know? Or is it manipulation of the masses that we can counter?
WAKATT (‘our time’) presents a struggle of bodies moving together for a common, open and generous future. With original music composed and played live by the trio Magic Malik Orchestra.
