Lee Méir - Paper Works

07.09.2026 - 11.09.2026

Choreographer and costume designer Lee Méir’s new ensemble production, Paper Works, transforms paper from a passive prop into a living choreographic protagonist. Built on her "shifting mediums" methodology, the piece features a multi-generational ensemble of five Berlin-based dancers engaging in a tactile, sonic dialogue with paper through folding, tearing, and rebuilding. Constructed mainly from paper, the costumes and scenography blur the boundaries between body, object, and stage, while the live soundscape converts the material’s friction and crumpling into electronic loops. Rooted in sustainability and low-waste design, the work treats hospitality as an aesthetic core: a pre-show participatory workshop and haptic tour invite families and neurodivergent audiences to engage through touch before a relaxed performance with live audio description. Ultimately, Paper Works reveals vulnerability and resilience as shared conditions of bodies and materials in flux.

Lee Méir is a Berlin-based choreographer, performer and costume designer. At the core of her work lies an on-going search for how we make sense out of things, explored through the interplay between chaos and order, randomness and control, and rooted in her vision of art as a unique nexus of ideas, people, and craft. Lee´s work, ranging from solo to collective formats, has been presented in venues and festivals such as the Brighton Festival, Tanz im August Berlin/HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Heidelberg Tanzbiennale, Tanzquartier Vienna, amongst others. Lee is a 2019 recipient of the Pina Bausch Fellowship in cooperation with L’Ecole des Sables in Senegal. In 2023, Uferstudios Berlin selected Lee as their representative artist for the 2023-2024 Creative Crossroads Program by the European Network Project Life Long Burning.
