11 O’clock (cancelled)

To limit the spread of the corona virus, STUK cancels all planned performances, concerts and public events until May 31 2020. All ticket holders are contacted directly.

In her ongoing research into musicals, Liz Kinoshita now focuses on the phenomenon of the 11 o’clock number. The term refers to the penultimate song of a musical in which one of the protagonists comes to a crucial realisation, usually in monologue form, full of emotion, conviction, and empathy. 11 O’clock underscores the urge of the eleventh hour, the imminent catastrophe, the tipping point, as procrastination makes way for action. The song not only inspires, it’s also a moment of reckoning, where a character caught in adversity finds courage to face up to the situation.

How do we currently contend with the big issues of today? Do we pray, wallow, find a means to get out, or resign ourselves to it? Through dance, song and rhetoric, 11 O’clock explores the thoughts and possible solutions that strike us when we come face-to-face with the truth.
