8.2
Choreographer and dancer Radouan Mriziga followed a dance course in Tunisia and later studied at P.A.R.T.S in Brussels. For his youth production 8.2, Mriziga takes his inspiration from an old love: rap. Rap music forms the centrepiece of this contemporary dance production in all its forms: the rhythm and flow, the statements and gestures, the history of the grandmasters to Kendrick Lamar.
A group of young dancers get to grips with a music style that has survived generations and transcends trends by continuously reinventing itself. 8.2 is composed as a rap number, not in the literal sense, but in the way it’s per- formed. One body, for example, indicates the rhythm while another freestyles. 8.2 is a clever medley in which young people use the most popular music genre of the moment as a personal means of expression, far beyond its clichés.
