‘Feldenkrais lesson’, Yael Davids, 2015, Students Dutch Art Institute, Casa do Povo, São Paulo.
A Line, a Word, a Sentence.
In A Line, a Word, a Sentence., performers hold panels with cut-outs for their lips, censoring their voice. Language is replaced by their bodies gathering. Sentences form as the panels move from one composition to another. The work is a rerun of an earlier installation presented at Playground in 2007 and is even more relevant today. In reaction to extensive atrocities committed by Israel upon the Palestinian people and the lack of critical rebuke, Yael Davids shows how resistance can be expressed when systematic oppression is difficult to articulate in words.
