Altered Natives' Say Yes To Another Excess - Twerk

François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea like to provoke. With their sexually charged work, they playfully negotiate the borders between high and low culture.

TWERK is inspired by their personal experiences of clubbing. Working with the New York voguer Alex Mugler and dancers Ana Pi and Elisa Yvelin, they all work with their own personal ‘dance archive’. In a form of fieldwork, they examine free dance styles such as Jamaican dancehall, voguing and twerking, challenging themselves to rely on the poetic and expressive power of dance. Here, they explore ‘grime’, an electronic music genre combining sounds of dancehall, hip hop and UK garage. Don’t miss the chance to see top DJs from the ‘new grime’ live at work. Dance and music in a daring and rousing performance.
