Another Sacre
The first week of September, STUK welcomes the graduating generation of dancers and choreographers from P.A.R.T.S. STUDIOS and the Bachelor Dance at the Antwerp Conservatory.
Their past two study years were thwarted by an unexpected pandemic. Behind closed doors and in challenging circumstances, they continued to develop their artistic practice.
From Wednesday to Friday STUK opens its doors for dialogue and encounters. The students share their research and graduation projects with each other, colleagues from the field and the audience. Come and meet the names of tomorrow!
In Another Sacre twelve dancers move in their very own way through Stravinsky's famous composition Le Sacre du Printemps. Alain Platel and Bérengère Bodin invited the final-year students of the Bachelor Dance at the Antwerp Conservatory to dive into guilty pleasures from their personal dance history such as house, crump, tango, ballet, folklore...and unleash them onto the music. They dance together but also separately, but with one goal: to vibrate together.
Le Sacre has already had so many versions and precisely for that reason it is all the more interesting to question whether a contemporary reading of a Sacre du Printemps could not be this one. A version in which this generation is allowed to incorporate everything that nurtured their love for dance, including that what they thought they had to unlearn.
