In the last few years, Senni has built up a solid reputation by deconstructing and re-contextualizing a genre that’s been the butt of jokes for far too long. By stripping away the fat from the well-worn trance framework and concentrating on just a few elements – the epic build-ups and gorgeous arpeggios, for a start – Senni managed to offer a fresh take on the perennially popular sound, and gathered more than a few followers in the process.

The famous Italian musician Lorenzo Senni, also label owner of the thrilling Presto?!label, is probably one of the most inventive artists in the contemporary electronic music scene. With his investigative approach he deconstructs the sounds of the nineties club and rave scene to recontruct them to a whole new style: ‘Pointillistic Trance’. With his project AAT (Advanced Abstract Trance) he starts with dissecting the so called euphoric ‘buildup’ from the electronic dance music to put it out again in an overwhelming, introspective and sterile atmosphere where he frightens the audience with powerful stroboscopic lights and CO2 cannons. A confusing, but playful experience that defines Senni’s rascally character.
HIELE
Antwerp-born, London-based producer Roman Hiele is definitely ‘one to watch’ in the Belgian music scene. A classically trained musician who chose to work with synts and electronics. His musical style is often compared to Aphex Twin: eclectic drum ’n bass styled-music that goes in all directions and sounds fantastic.
HANTRAX
Also from Antwerp and ‘back to the future’ is Hantrax, the moniker of keyboard player and producer Han Swolfs. Hantrax boosts the late 80s and 90s revival. We hear influences out of EBM, Robert Schumann, 70s erotica soundtracks and old skool hip hop and a dash of ‘Sinksenfoor’.
