Colours of Noise
Triptych of experimental performers exploring the full spectrum of sound
Colours of Noise presents an intimate triple bill of uncompromising composers/producers who go the edge in their quest for unbeaten sound paths, manoeuvring between silence and sound, simplicity and virtuosity, melody and noise. Italian-born, Berlin-based percussion phenomenon Andrea Belfi creates his own universe by extending his drum kit with electronic components. In his intense live shows, buzzing tones and tangible noise blend with improvised drum rolls and repetitive patterns, be it in solo shows or as a praised member of Nils Frahm’s trio Nonkeen. Another lover of improvisation is Red Brut: in a sonic stream of consciousness, the Rotterdam field recorder combines everyday sounds into associatieve sound collages. Finally, Julien Desprezperforms Acapulco Redux, an audiovisual blitzkrieg that almost reached cult status. In a 360° setting, Desprez plays with contrasts of light and dark, using his guitar as a percussion instrument and playing his effect pedals as if they were a tap dance floor.
