Dead Leaf

Inspired by breakdance and contemporary dance, the dancers balance between falling and getting back up.

Through a hybrid language between breaking and contemporary dance, four performers plunge into a raw, organic chaos, constantly teetering between imbalance and attempts at control.

Dead Leaf is based on a series of falls: hitting the ground and rising again, differently each time. The inevitability of the fall becomes an act shared among the four dancers. Bodies collapse, rebound, and gather themselves, revealing that suspended moment between equilibrium and emptiness, between fear and surrender. The cycle of life and death forms the implicit theme of Dead Leaf and resonates through the piano playing of Racha Arodaky, featuring music by Händel, Michel Legrand, and original compositions.

The simplicity of Dead Leaf lies in all those variations on the same recurring patterns, each time ending in a fall. It is repetition that keeps fascinating, because those variations are so well executed. It is one flowing whole, enriched and strengthened by the music and that remarkable pianist.
