Gounouj
An atmospheric evocation of a part of Guadeloupe threatened by climate change.
Gounouj is conceived for the Gros Morne/Grande-Anse nature area in Guadeloupe, where fauna, flora, and atmosphere exist in delicate balance and are now disrupted by human activity. Four dancers embody this tension through movements rooted in local Gwoka dance.
Heel steps, turn-ins and off-balance accents are enriched by fluid upper-body movements driven by the rhythmic pulse of Gwoka. Out of this unique blend, the life forms of the Caribbean archipelago come on stage. With original music and site recordings of birds, seawaves, and frogs, Gounouj unfolds as a journey through twilight.
