Imprisoned Gods
STUK with 30CC
Lukah Katangila explores the rich traditions and belief systems of ancient Alkebulan (present-day Africa), before the influence of Western colonisation. He honours the Weusi peoples, known for their deep connection to nature, medicine and many deities, and explores the impact of Christianity on these cultures. Four dancers, each with roots in the Goma area and specialising in their own traditional dance style, show Alkebulan's cultural diversity. From the hunting-inspired movements of the Rega to the majestic Tembo, from the flowing Shi to the wild Hunde. Imprisoned Gods is a celebration of cultural identity and of hip-hop. Katangila bridges tradition and modern expression with dancers Meshake Lusolo Rene, Bienco Hangi Luanda, Faraja Batumike. You will get a unique look at the power of faith and tradition through the lens of dance.
