Jazz op zondag : Commander Spoon

Jazzrock hybrid Commander Spoon is an eclectic bunch: the four band members seem to be battling for the most diverse musical background. Last April, they released their first EP Introducing. The song Introducing - Part III made it to LEFTO presents Jazz Cats on Sdban Ultra, a perfect introduction to the current Belgian jazz scene. In October, it was followed by a second EP, Declining.
Sax player and composer Pierre Spataro (Oyster Node, Rue des Pecheries) is active in all areas of the Brussels jazz scene, combining jazz standards with hip hop and electronic music. Drummer Samy Wallens (Oyster Node) combines influences from jazz, pop, hip hop, electronica and African grooves. On guitar, we have Florent Jeunieaux from bands like Murmures, Geffrey Fiorese Tentet, La Chiva Gantiva, Aneta Nayan and Echt. Apart from that, he's also active as a session musician and he makes soundtracks for short films. Last but not least, bass player Fil Caporali uses his Brazilian musical roots for projects with Margaux Vranken Trio, Aneta Nayan, Marie Fikry Oriental Jazz Project. In 2016, he received the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award.
