Jazz op zondag: De Groote-Faes Duo
Contemporary jazz meets classical and electronica: intimate, generous and subtly unpredictable.
Guitarist Bruno De Groote and double bassist Ben Faes, two internationally acclaimed Belgian musicians, come together in an intimate musical dialogue. Effortlessly moving between improvisation, jazz, classical music and subtle electronic textures, their music is lyrical, transparent and full of unexpected turns.
De Groote brings a broad musical vocabulary, ranging from blues and post-bop to avant-garde and post-rock, while Faes' classical background provides a refined, melodic foundation. Together they create a distinctive sound in which tradition and innovation naturally reinforce one another.
Their latest album Time Unfolding (2026), featuring guest drummer Dré Pallemaerts, received widespread critical acclaim. The duo previously collaborated with trumpeter Dave Douglas on Symphony for 2 Little Boys (2017). On stage they however always return to the essence: the pure interaction between guitar and double bass, allowing each performance to unfold organically.

Sunday = JOZday!
Sunday means JAZZ ON SUNDAY DAY, and we're happy to continue this idea in the new STUK season of 2026–2027. Last year was full of exciting jazz talent, and we're bringing that same energy into autumn 2026. The concept stays the same: free jazz every Sunday in the most beautiful café in Leuven. Every month, the programme alternates between live concerts, a special LUCA Jazz night with an open jam session, and DJ sets with groovy jazz records. We'll keep adding new names throughout the season, so make sure to check the STUK website for the latest updates!
