Drummer and percussionist Karen Willems built up a career with bands such as Zita Swoon Group, Yuko, Jan Swerts and her own project Inwolves. With hare playful attitude and adventurous style she easily moves between pop, experimental rock and free improv. Since 202 Willems wants to purify the essence of her practice. Helped by the pandemic she released four solo tapes: introvert explorations with unusual instrumentation, field recordings and a combination of electronic and acoustic sound sources. Her new double LP Grichte (2022) continues that investigation. The first part of the album is an organic solo exploration recorded in the Dunk!studio in the middle of the fields of Zottegem. For the second half, Willems invited three sax players: Vincent Brijs, Marc De Maeseneer and John Snauwaert, resulting in a louder, punchier and more ecstatic sound, with strong references to jazz and rock. Expect a Jazz op Zondag night that is quite different from the others.
