Jazz op zondag: KCT
Solo project of keyboard player Karel Ceulenaere (Black Flower, John Ghost), packed with atmospheric compositions and broken grooves
Keyboardist Karel Cuelenaere has been causing a furore for some time with projects of international calibre such as Black Flower and John Ghost. The press applauds his decisive impact on the sound of both projects (De Standaard) and portrays him as a virtuoso (Louder Than War, UK).
With his solo project KCT - short for Karel Cuelenaere Trio - he resolutely opts for the piano.
Stylistically anchored in the Belgian jazz tradition of Aka Moon, Octurn and Jozef Dumoulin, the trio incorporates the atmosphere of ‘Saudade’, a kind of melancholy, which Karel got to know on tour in Brazil and which he also finds in pianist Keith Jarrett's recordings from the 1960s. Expect atmospheric compositions, fractured grooves and unconventional rhythms with high doses of playing pleasure and interaction.
