Groundbreaking Belgian free impro ensemble celebrates their 10th anniversary with fourth album SUN DOG
In 2025, Kabas celebrates its 10th anniversary as a groundbreaking Belgian ensemble in free improvisation and conceptual composition. Since their founding by Thijs Troch, Jan Daelman, Elias Devoldere, and Nils Vermeulen, Kabas has secured a prominent place in the Belgian music scene. Their debut album, Abel (2016), set the tone, and nearly a decade later, they continue to surprise.
With albums like Negen / Live at SMUP (2018) and Eugénie (2020), Kabas demonstrates a natural evolution. In March 2025, they will release their fourth album, SUN DOG, on the Ghent-based label Tinke. This triptych feels like a minimalist suite where flute, bass, percussion, banjo, and electronic elements blend into an ever-changing ambient sound. SUN DOG creates a cinematic atmosphere that feels both alien and familiar, a universe of its own.
This concert is part of Leuven Jazz 2025 and is organized in collaboration with Jazz op zondag at STUK.
