Kali Malone + Razen (live organ) | Begijnhofkerk [CANCELLED]

STUK closes its doors and cancels all public events until December 13, as a result of the measures imposed by the Federal Government on October 30, and out of solidarity with everyone fighting COVID-19. All ticket holders will be contacted directly.

Take care, and stay safe.

American-born, Stockholm-based minimalist Kali Malone combines electronic and analogue sounds. From this synthesis she creates slow, repetitive compositions that take the listener into a warm, timeless bath. A trained organ tuner, Malone experiments with historic tunings such as just intonation, and has recently released two stunning organ albums: The Sacrificial Code (2019) and Studies for Organ (2020). She will play the 17th century organ of the Begijnhofkerk.

Belgian ensemble Razen explores the no man's land between drone, folk music, psychedelica and old music. With half forgotten instruments such as the shawm or the gurdy, they create long improvisations ranging from barely audible to demonic ecstasy. Just like Kali Malone, they prefer older tunings, allowing for a better hearing of overtones and acoustic interferences. Razen will hold a residency in the Begijnhof Church and experiment with the monumental church organ and the building's acoustics.
