Woodblocks, percussion and a prepared banjo: new work by Belgian musical cross-thinkers.
During this evening of intimate listening, you dive into the head of three musical non-conformists: percussionist Karen Wilems and the guitar duo Ruben Machtelinckx and Frederik Leroux aka Poor Isa. Karen Willems tries to extend the possibilities of her instrument, the drums, during a residency in STUK. She does so by adding voice, field recordings, objects and electronics. Willems will bring along the American brass player Jon Birdsong, who will add even more colour to the music. Poor Isa is working on new material after their beautiful debut album Let’s Drink The Sea And Dance. Their unique combination of prepared banjo and woodblocks creates a subtly vulnerable sound filled with nuance and barely noticeable details. Both acts will play for 30 minutes, creating one hour of colourful compositions rising from an unbridled aural imagination.
PRACTICAL
• Safety first: before, during and after the performance, we keep a safe distance from other bubbles - also while queueing before the show. Inside the venues, the STUK crew will guide you to your seats. In STUK Labozaal we work with a damboard pattern, with 1 meter distance between every seat - please don't move the seats.
