Köln 75

A jazzy film about the mastermind behind Keith Jarrett’s legendary 1975 performance in Cologne.

The young Vera Brandes has a passion for jazz and dreams of a career in the music industry. To make that dream come true, she decides to organize a concert in 1975 with the legendary pianist Keith Jarrett at the Cologne Opera House. Although it seems like an impossible task, Vera perseveres, determined to pull off what would become the greatest solo concert in jazz history.

The legendary 1975 performance by Keith Jarrett in Cologne is still remembered today. The album from that concert, The Köln Concert, remains one of the best-selling piano albums of all time. The fact that Jarrett was able to deliver such a performance—completely improvised on a broken piano—proves why he rightfully stands among the greatest names in the jazz world. Yet, with Köln 75, Ido Fulk (The Ticket) doesn’t want to tell Jarrett’s story, but rather that of the mastermind behind the entire operation: the then eighteen-year-old Vera Brandes. Fulk takes you on a whirlwind of genres and styles that, much like in jazz, blend endlessly together.
