In her performances, Begüm Erciyas works with the power of the voice and the act of speaking. After the successful Voicing Pieces, selected for Het TheaterFestival 2018, this year she presents a new work focusing on the experience of the voice as an autonomous medium. While we indeed express our personal beliefs and feelings through our voice, in the digital age we increasingly remain in doubt about who is actually speaking: a person or a machine?
In Pillow Talk, this alienation and
conviction constantly shift and alternate. Spread out on a hilly landscape,
the public encounters a virtual entity. An
artificial voice functions as a mediator,
a discussion partner and mirror. While
conversations are constructed word-by-word, impressions are shared, naps are
taken and time is passed, Pillow Talk
invites you to enter into an intimate relationship with the non-human.
