EFFEKT combines a holistic and systemic design approach with a human scale.

EFFEKT is a design and research studio based in Copenhagen composed of around 40 architects, urban planners, landscape architects and experts, all thinkers and builders. The office combines a holistic and systemic design approach with human-scale design sensitivity, considering societal value of the project. They strongly invest in how buildings and cities relate to people and planet and attempt to create projects with a lasting positive impact within a larger local, regional and global context.

Projects like The Treetop Walkway (2023, Hamaren, NO) and Forest Tower (2017, Haslev, DK) show a practice that speaks to the basic pleasures of re-relating with nature. EFFEKT in parallel invests in research, among others resulting in the publication of the Reduction Roadmap, a manual for urban development within social and planetary boundaries. With the development of Urban LCA, EFFEKT designed a scenario-based tool to measure and improve design strategies and solutions in the early planning phases. Living Places Copenhagen (2023, Copenhagen, DK) perfectly translates this theoretic approach into a sustainably built environment.

How does architecture acquire meaning? Which relations ground its practice? How do we engage with places, people, materials and poetics -within our wider ecological and social systems?

ROOTED explores architecture in its many forms, as part of an inextricable web of relations. It highlights practices that are deeply attuned to their environments—through poetic sensitivity, material exploration, long-term community collaboration, or acts of care. The invited speakers reflect on the relational processes that shape their work: the ways of seeing, acting, and engaging that give architecture its grounding and resonance.
