Peter Kirn
SEASON OF THE MOSQUITOS | LIVE AV PERFORMANCE
'I no longer love blue skies. In fact, I now prefer grey skies. The drones do not fly when the skies are grey.'
'What airline pilots call ‘severe clear’: seemingly infinite visibility...'
Drawing from synthetic sounds, found images, and collected data, Kirn's immersive work is a meditation on the psychological impact of threats, as juxtaposed against images of tranquility. It draws experiential connections between the composer's experience living in New York on 9/11 (and in a Europe freshly facing the threat of terrorism) and reports from corners of the world in which the United States flies drone programs. The objective is a reflection on the experiential, beyond the specifics of policy.
