Spine Of Desire: Wounds without tears, out of one skin in diamonds and shit
A choreography that reveals the interplay between intimacy, the body, and the creation of a safe space
The French-Caribbean artist Stanley Ollivier zooms in on the ability of people of colour to create communities and spaces of connectedness without the dominance of white norms. Together with performers Lily Brieu Nguyen and Mamadou Wagué, and drawing on individual and collective stories, they explore everyday reality and social changes from the perspective of persons of colour.
The three dancers initially move as strangers within a disorienting soundscape – at the intersection of meditation and threat. As the performance unfolds, a vibrant party to Caribbean rhythms unfolds. Together with the dancers, Ollivier develops a choreographic approach and dance language that reflect how intimacy, the body, and the creation of a safe space are interconnected.
