The Sea Within
Choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez has taken an idiosyncratic direction in recent years with a trilogy about the ecstatic body, which outstandingly displays the impact of emotions, such as laughter and fear, on the body. The Sea Within establishes a change of direction. In this captivating performance, Gruwez no longer wants to curb the chaos and instead seeks its inherent order. As fierce and intense as ever, Gruwez shifts from the individual and zooms in on a group of ten dancers, who merge into a vast, breathtaking landscape. Ten powerful lotus flowers symbolise being together in a new and contemporary ritual. For the music, Elko Blijweert and Bjorn Eriksson assist Gruwez’s regular companion Maarten Van Cauwenberghe. With minimalist synths and stimulating frequencies, their electronic sound design delights the senses.
