Work & inspiration session: a centre of expertise for immaterial heritage of contemporary dance

STUK is starting up a new part of its program around 'immaterial heritage of contemporary dance'. How can we transmit dance, as an ephemeral and embodied art form, to new generations of audiences and dance artists?

We will program an annual focus festival, but also have the ambition to develop a ‘centre of expertise’ around immaterial heritage of contemporary dance, where dance practice and research intertwine in every imaginable and as yet unimaginable way.

On 25.01.2024, we are kicking off this process with a working session with all those who are already working with the question of 'passing on dance' today, in order to get the diverse needs on the table and together formulate ideas and dreams for what such an 'expertise centre' could or should do. We gather professionals from the contemporary dance sector, dance education, academic research, the cultural heritage field, policy makers and peers from other sectors who address similar issues.
