Arco Renz & Danielle Allouma - REbis7
29.04.2025 — 06.05.2025
Final residency before the premiere of REbis7, a new collaboration between Arco Renz & Danielle Allouma
Following last year’s REvolutions 2349, REbis 7 is the second part of the « RE » trilogy in which Danielle Allouma and Arco Renz investigate the power and the contemporary potentialities of the revolving body.
REbis 7 is a visceral and visual performance experience in which dance, music and light interact with extroverted garment creations and sculptural entities. In a multipolar universe, and through entrancing physicality and single-minded focus, Danielle Allouma’s revolving body becomes an immersive, intensely sensual and meditative portal. Negotiating free movement in thought and action, REbis 7 is a tribute to metamorphosis, to the human quest for freedom, and to our longing for emancipation from binary thought patterns.
REbis 7 refers to the musical note 'RE' that vibrates at a frequency of 2349.32 Hz and to being « bis », repeated, persistent movement, as well as second and next part of the « RE » tryptic.
The Rebis is an alchemical image associated with a hermaphrodite figure. Rebis stands for the non-binary manifestation of Lifeforce and is symbolic of the persistent driving force to attain new balances and harmonies.
The androgyne is an important layer of REbis 7. As a spiritual symbol pointing to the cosmic principle of wholeness, there is presence of one gender in the other. Rather than being man and woman at the same time, or one over the other, REbis 7 is simply about the process of being whole in movement.
7 is a reference to numerological symbolism of the Rebis image that first appeared in the book « Azoth of the Philosophers » by Basil Valentine in 1613 where a 4-sided square and a 3-sided triangle integrate within 1 circle. The number 4 is associated here with matter - 4 seasons, 4 compass points, etc. The number 3 is associated with the numinous - the Hindu Trinity, the Christian Godhead, etc. And 3 plus 4 equals 7, the number of completion, integrating matter and consciousness.
