Charlotte Bouckaert - I Never Looked Like That

01.06.2026 — 12.06.2026

“You are the only one who can never see yourself except as an image; […] and especially for your own body, you are condemned to the repertoire of its images.” – Roland Barthes

Photos don’t just show and document; they also perform. Charlotte Bouckaert is back on stage, and she takes live pictures of her own body. Vulnerable and searching. Conscious of the pictural traditions around the female body and inspired by self-portraits by past and contemporary female artists, she reads her body within the force field created between intimacy and the societal gaze.

After her 11 Seconds, which Bouckaert presented at Playground in 2025 and in which she explored how we look at art, and You Are an Object to Me, in which she considered still-life art paintings, this new creation explores the body.
